Google Duo, a video calling app, from Google is rolled out for both Android and iPhone users. This Google Duo is one-to-one video calling app for everyone. It represents Google’s response to other popular video calling apps like Microsoft’s skype, Facebook’s Messenger app, Apple’s FaceTime. The main added feature in Google Duo is it shows a partial preview video of the person making the video call even when the phone is in lock mode. Google call this feature, “Knock Knock.”
This is not Google’s first video calling app. Hangout, Google Product; for both video calling and messaging is serving the people form several years. Hangouts can be used on desktops, it supports messaging and group chats. Hangouts have multiway video for collaboration.
Hangouts can be reached people Through Gmail.
But this Duo is different from Hangouts, and more specialized. It does only one thing i.e. Video calling. It does not require any google account sign up.
It reaches people directly through their Phone numbers. It’s end- to- end encryption prevents third parties from viewing your personal details. Even Google cannot access.
The feature of Duo includes a simple interface that brings video to the forefront by just tapping on any of your contact you need to make a call. You can make a call to all your friends on the smartphones with just one simple Google Duo.
The Knock Knock feature allows you to see the live preview video of the caller at the other end before you pick up the call. This feature is available for only for Android mobile contacts only. You can disable this Knock Knock feature at any time.
This Knock Knock feature is not available on iOS, i.e., those using Apple devices will see a notification on the top of the screen and will have to open duo app before seeing knock knock in action.
On the other hand outgoing calls will show a video preview to Android contacts only.
Through Google Duo you can call to iPhone users and vice-versa, which is not possible with the features of Apple’s FaceTime.

So, finally it’s not possible judge the Google Duo reliability in the beginning itself. There are lots of video chatting app available on the store with their own features. You have to wait and see how these unique features of the Google Duo make it compete with the existing video calling apps.
