How To Be Safe Online


                        Internet has transformed the way you live your life. Now, this internet has become the part of your daily routine. You read books, shop online, watch movies, you do bank transactions, you play games, you message your friends. But you never think of safety while browsing. There are many hackers always want to hack your data whenever there is a chance. If you’re unconscious your data will be stolen without knowing to the third eye. In order to stop this it’s better to be safe online. Mobile, Wi-Fi, Browsers etc., whatever you use its better to safeguard them. 


                        Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, Pokemon’s Jon hanke, Twitter’s Jack Dorsey all these people are leading heads in technology. But before hackers all are common. Even Mark Zuckerberg account was hacked recently. What about our situation?

                       It is not possible to stay away from hackers without taking any precautions. Nothing can happen without Internet these days. So, if you are unconscious while using internet you will be at loss. Never think hackers will not stay near you, they will be everywhere. If you are little careless they will use their hand power to steal your information without any shy.

                         So, it’s better to follow these Tips and be safe online.

#1 Two-step verification:

                 Gmail is the most widely used social networking websites for sending and receiving emails. So you should have a strong password. But experts say that this is not enough to be safe online with this password alone. It’s better to have 2-step Verification. By this your account and mobile number are interlinked to have more safety.

                That is when you sign in Gmail with username and password, immediately your mobile will get a one-time password (OTP). If you enter this password you can access your account.

                 If you want to activate two step verification in Gmail


Go to My Account > Sign-in and Security > signing in to Google > password and sign-in method > 2-step verification > Get started > Login to Gmail > write the phone number in the what phone number you want to use

After this follow the Instructions to activate Two step verification.
               
#2 Use Authenticator App

     This is an advanced feature of 2-step verification

Step1 Go to Google play store and download Google Authenticator App and           Install the application.


Step2 After completion of 2-step verification process, Go to Authenticator App           > Set Up > select the type of phone do you have.

Step3 Go to set up at the bottom you will get a QR code

Step4 Scan the QR code with the help of QR scanner on your mobile then it will             link to your mobile.


                     Whenever you log in to the Gmail you have to the scan the QR code to access your Gmail account. In this code for every 30 sec a new code will be generated.

#3 Lock your SIM

                   You have authenticated the Gmail with 2-step verification. But if someone else with your details can duplicate the SIM, then your Gmail OTP will be sent to their hands. Again how to protect your Gmail? Here is a tip to protect Gmail.

                    You can set a password for your SIM. All you have to do is to enable it. Every mobile Number by default will have a SIM lock. With that you can lock your SIM. Later you can change the PIN number.

 Go to setting > security > set up SIM card lock > lock SIM card


#4 Delete Cookies and Auto-fills

               Chrome, Firefox ….. Whatever browser you open there will be ads displayed on the browser. Some of these ads irritate you. These ads are because of enabling the cookies. Hackers take advantage of these ads to get your personal information. So it is advisable to turn off browser cookies always. Here are the steps to block cookies.

For chrome browser
Go to Setting > show-advanced settings > Privacy > Content Setting > block the cookies option
For Firefox
Tools > Options > Privacy > History > Never allow cookies


                          Auto-fills complete data in the browser forms without the user need to type it in full. It is not safe to use auto fills and experts advise to disable it. Here are the steps to disable Auto-fills.

For Chrome Browser
Go to Setting > show-advanced settings > passwords and forms > Disable Auto-fills.
For Fire Fox
Tools > Options > Privacy > History: “Never remember history”


#5 Always use Messenger Apps: Encryption

                       We start conversation in WhatsApp. WhatsApp conversation can be done through computer or our mobile. Now a day WhatsApp is the primary source for our personal and business communications .

                       In order to hide conversation from third party, end-to-end encryption option is available. By enabling this you and your end user can only access the message without going to the third party. Your phones third party applications cannot access them. Even the WhatsApp officials cannot access to them. This is how you can safeguard your whatsApp account from hackers. So always use the application for messaging that use encryption option.

           Viber, LINE, Telegram, Signal-Private Messenger, Cyber Dust, ChatSecure are some of the most secure messaging apps.

#6 Always close Camera and mic of your laptop

             Few days back Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted a photo in Facebook account. If you examine that photo you can find his mac book’s Camera and mic are closed with tape. 

            This is to safeguard from hackers experts says. It is unsafe to open laptop and computer camera while they are not in use.  Hackers can use our cameras and mic to get our personal information through this.

#7 Use the Most Trusted Privacy Browsers

             We open the browser, send mails, chat on Facebook, send messages to friends through WhatsApp, Do Online Transaction, after we sign-out. At last we delete history. We think we are safe, But experts say that we are not safe by this also. They say it is advisable to use browsers with more privacy.


             Chrome Browser, Microsoft-edge, Firefox, Avira Scout, Maxthon, Opera, Safari, Epic are some of the most trusted privacy browsers. It is difficult to hack when we browse in these browsers.

#8 Be careful while selling your old Phone

            We sell our old phone when we buy a new phone. But before selling we reset all the data, but this data cannot be deleted completely from the mobile. We can retrieve the data even after resetting the phone.


             When you format the phone all your data like mail id, password will be in the form of compressed file. In order to get rid of this, you have to format your phone and fill dummy information and load. Now reset the mobile. Then last saved files will be in the compressed state. Then there will be no issues. Then we are safe and can sell the phone without any doubt.


#9 Use Bug Detectors

         Bugs can transfer your conversation secretly to public or third party. So to avoid this use bug scanners available in online. 

         These will be like car keys, pens. If there is a bug near you it will detect.

        
#10 Never Use Wi-Fi in Free Wi-Fi Zone

                These days free Wi-Fi zones are available in Railway stations, Bus stands, Shopping malls, etc. If it is for Normal use you can, but for Bank Transactions it is not safe. Your OTP numbers and your bank account details will be hacked. 


                So, to be on safe sides never use Wi-Fi in public areas.
