WhatsApp, the top most popular messaging apps, with one billion active users monthly is going to drop support for many older mobile phones using the old operating system as this doesn’t reinforce the expanding app’s features in the future. That the older smartphone platforms cannot support the upcoming new security features of the WhatsApp messenger.

WhatsApp in the anniversary update, this year mentioned their opinions that in the coming months ahead they are putting greater emphasis on the security features and adding more features to compete with an upcoming operating platform of the mobiles for staying live in the messaging market.
The operating system provided by BlackBerry and Nokia accounted for 70 percent of smartphones were sold 7 years back when WhataApp started. But as the days changed now mobile operating systems offered by Google, Apple and Microsoft account for 99.5 percent sales today.
WhatsApp has taken this decision by comparing the mobile operating platforms and their use; seven years back to the changes till date and forecasting the changes in the mobile platform and their use in the next seven years.
Below is the list of mobile phone platforms that WhatsApp decided to terminate support by the end of 2016.
1. iPhone 3GS/iOS 6:

The mobiles that are compatible with these operating systems are iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5. These iPhone 3GS/iOS 6 compatible mobile phones cannot be supported by WhatsApp.
2. Android 2.1 and Android 2.2:

WhatsApp will wind-up support to all the mobile devices supporting android 2.1 (Eclair) and android 2.2 (Froyo) operating systems after December 2016.
3. Windows Phone 7.1:

4. BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10:

This decision is made to give people better ways to keep in touch with family, friends, and loved ones using WhatsApp.
Keeping in the mind the usability of the customers, the Facebook-owned company suggested the users search for an alternative by upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone before the end of the year 2016 in order to continue with the WhatsApp messenger.
